If you are selected for an oral presentation, you have 10 minutes to present your research; 7 minutes for your presentation and 3 minutes for the discussion next to your presentation.
The most important function of your abstract is to show that you have made a valuable contribution to the congress and to attract the audience to your presentation. Make sure that your abstract does not exceed the 250-word limit.
While it's important to know who your target audience is, it's best to assume that they know little in general. This usually requires simplifying your summary to some extent. Be careful not to change the facts in your summary in the process of making it accessible to others.
The two most important parts of the abstract are the title and the conclusion. These are important because they are often the only chance to get people interested in your work and make it clear what your summary is about.
Make it short and clear. Formulate an open research question and, if possible, make clear what the main conclusion is.
The conclusion should state not only your findings, but also what it means. Note that most readers will read the result in the next step if your title attracted their interest. Be careful not to end up with more than you've achieved in your results, and state what your results mean.
